Join us on the 22nd July at 10 am.
we are excited to be participating in the final stage of the Tall Ships Race as the boats leave the harbour. We will offer a small ceremony and a blessings for each vessel as it continues on its journey. The event will take place on the harbourfront at a designated area, allowing each vessel to receive its individual blessing before the race continues on its way to Norway. This gathering offers a space to pause, reflect, and feel part of something greater. As the sails are raised and anchors lifted, the blessings of Aberdeen, spoken in many voices, but with one heart, will follow each tall ship on its journey across the waves.
Representatives from many different faith groups will come together and offer this ceremony and a Scottish farewell Blessing, a version of “May the road rise up to meet you.” The words have been altered slightly to fit the occasion.
As the vessel set off and sail past us, we will be offering the same blessing for each boat and all who sail on them. This will be given by each faith representative in turn, until the last boat leaves the harbour.
Each year, Varapunya Meditation Centre collaborates with Interfaith Aberdeen to host this event during Mental Health Week, aligning with the theme selected for that year. The theme for 2025 is 'Community'.
The day's program typically begins at 10:00 AM with a welcome session and a mindful walk around the woodland. This is followed by a Buddhist meditation session, a traditional food offering to the monks, and a communal lunch. After lunch, representatives from various faith groups share their reflections.
Additionally, we compile a digital booklet containing thoughts and perspectives from participants, and we would greatly appreciate your contributions. It would be helpful if you could send your reflections by the end of April.
We would be delighted if you or other members could join us and contribute to this meaningful event. Even if attendance is not possible, your reflections in writing would be warmly welcomed.
Please let me know if this would be possible.
